April Showers Bring May Flowers

Considering it's been a rainy few days, I figured it was an appropriate time to discuss rain boots. It's also fitting since I finally own a pair, and it only took me 25 years to do it. Needless to say, my family does not have a history of owning "functional clothing"- my 83 year old grandmother would still rather wear multiple fashion capes and set her house to 80 degrees instead of investing in a large winter coat or anything involving sweatshirt material. God bless her. So I guess it's no surprise that I thought wearing flip flops in the rain in high school (they do dry faster than anything involving cloth) and ballet flats in the cold Indiana winters were acceptable shoe options instead of purchasing rain or winter boots. I probably have raynaud's now thanks to these wise life decisions. But I must admit, that today when I was fearlessly trekking through puddles and dodging oversized earth worms (seriously, I think there must be chocolate in the water in Hershey when it rains cause I have no other explanation for why these worms look like they have type 2 diabetes), I was pretty pleased with myself that I had finally made the decision to sack up and purchase a pair of rain boots. Of course, I felt less pleased with myself when I noticed one of the school deans checking out the Victoria's Secret label on my hot pink "princess"umbrella (as some people like to call it)...awkward, but not awkward enough for me to discontinue using it.

So there are a few ways you can work the rainboot. You can either stick with the classic black or black and white pattern that is less clunky and looks more like a regular flat boot, thus disguising the functionality and making my grandma very proud. You could also opt for the rain boot with the optional warm weather sock to be super functional (or you can buy them separately from www.target.com). Or you could laugh in the face of function, and finally take advantage of another opportunity to incorporate sparkles or animal prints into your wardrobe, to really make the deans wonder why they accepted you. Or, lastly, you can embrace your "inner puddle splashing child", and roll with the bright colors and patterns. The best websites I've found are www.target.com, www.amazon.com, and www.endless.com, and here are some of my favorites from them ...
