Faux & Fierce

I don't know what you weirdos do on Christmas,
but rocking faux fur like a ninja ganster is what you should have been doing

I always find it amusing that when we see knock off purses being sold on the street corner we turn up our noses and call them "fakes", and yet, when we find something that masters the art of mimicry in a chic way, we refer to it as "faux". I'm not sure who invented the distinction, but like most things in our American world, once you slap a french term on it, people give it respect. For example, would you rather stay in a large house or a chateau? We're such suckers. Well this season in particular, we've been fools for faux fur, and I'm okay with it. Not really from a PETA perspective, mostly because I'm a strong believer that I have canine teeth for a reason, but just because I can't honestly afford a real chinchilla jacket unless I make like American Gangster and start dealing drugs on the side. Blue magic anyone? As much as I do love me some Denzel Washington, the vision of jail time is enough of a deterrent... and fluorescent orange isn't really my color, although I did give it a chance, really, I did.

God, is it bad that I'm totally craving a cheese burger right now?

I'm a big fan of this trend, which really goes back to my days of scrounging around in my grandmother's closet as a child and finding her mink shawl complete with little mink heads, paws, and creepy glass eyes. It served a dual purpose of make an awesome dress up accessory while also scaring my older sister's friends whenever they came over. I was quite the popular younger sister, as you can imagine. I was simply trying to explain to them that fur is a glamorous girl's best friend and nothing to be afraid of... or I was just a complete pain in the ass, which explains why my sister pretty much ignored me until I hit high school. At least my grandma knew what was up, as she was quite the little fashion minx herself. So in her honor, I present to you a trend you probably already knew about, but on sale because the fashion industry is so foolishly preparing for their spring inventory while the rest of us our just finally seeing temperatures drop into the 20s.
What? Can't a brotha enjoy his fur in peace?

I've always heard the saying "Patience is a virtue", I just didn't fully appreciate it until I saw how amazing after Christmas sales can be when you're trying to hunt down a prized fur. FYI I went with options that had the most sizes available, but that's not to say some of these websites don't have more out there. I have two major words of advice MOVE FAST cause these items are selling out quickly, and be careful with the full fur numbers because certain styles can look wide and bulky on. Without further adue...I give you vests, jackets, and shawls all $150 or less
