Lana Del Rey Fashion Essentials: Portrait of a Retro WASP

Pretty much how I envision myself in a few years, tigers included of course

So I stumbled upon Lana Del Rey a few months ago, and I'm sort of obsessed. She started writing songs a while back and then created her own music videos on you tube using vintage footage. I've included the videos below because I think they add to the complete image she's created of herself and her musical style. Her videos might not be the finest quality, but don't be fooled, she hardly came from humble beginnings. She grew up in New York as the daughter of a millionaire before she was shipped off to some swanky Connecticut boarding school. I have a feeling her background is why every hipster known to man has made it a point to hate on her, but there's no denying she's talented (Despite her epic fail on SNL all her other live performances have been good, no one sounds good on SNL), and for such a young artist she has already mastered not only creating a unique sound but a distinct image to go with it. I think I'm also a fan because in every interview I've seen of her she's incredibly humble, albeit almost awkwardly shy despite the overly confident images of her out there (not just anyone can get away with wearing brass knuckle bedazzled rings). There's definitely more than meets the eye with her and she's not afraid to have a bit of a dark side. Personally, I really dig her style, which is why I thought she was a perfect person to feature on my blog. She seems to play upon her WASPY Connecticut days by combining very 1960s Stepford housewife coifed hair and dresses with retro accessories. I've tried my best to find pieces that I think mimic her style. As for all you hating hipsters, what is that you've contributed to society again other than glasses you don't have a prescription for? Nothing. That's what I thought.

Her first official CD "Born to Die" is available for pre-order now on iTunes and Amazon, but won't be official out until January 31st. She may not be your cup of tea, but I'd definitely suggest checking her out.
